~~I don't keep a sketch book but I have always been a doodler. I decided to develop these into something more and over a period of maybe 20 years I have done these little pictures. I start off with a piece of paper small enough to fit in this little brass box and then do a doodle that I try to be as unconscious of as possible. I then take the doodle and add colour in a much more controlled way. I might go for several years without adding to it and then I'll do several in one hit. It's an end in itself - I don't use them for any more ambitious picture. I like to keep them in the box, like it's treasure. I like to do it when I'm blocked for inspiration as it makes you feel as if all is not lost.
